Alternator Stator Construction

In alternator, the stator is made up of cast iron as the relative permittivity of iron is much more higher than any other materials to conduct more amount of flux thoughout it. The outer periphery of a stator is open slottted which made easy in installation or removal of stator coils. The shape of the stator coils are very much likely to the coils of a D.C. generator. Before inserting a stator coil into the stator slots, the coils must be laminated and suitable space must be provided through which cooling air or atmospheric air may circulate. After the placement of stator coils into the stator slots, the stator coils are held together in groups to form a winding of the required number of phases say a single phase or three phase. To reduce the harmonic content in the waveform. An integral number of slots are used with respect to the number of poles in the rotor.
