Joule's Law

An English physicist James Prescott Joule invented and published a law called Joule's law. Joule's law state's that heat is directly proportional to the current, voltage and time. Equation 1 can be written as

Joule's law explanation

From the above equation, it is clear that whenever a current flow through a wire, a collision occurs between electrons and atoms. These collision is dissipated in the form of heat, thus the measure of heat produced by an electric current is stated by Joule's law.

Note:

  • Higher the wire resistance, higher the heat dissipation.
  • Lower the wire resistance, lower the heat dissipation.
